Each year, the Guild awards one or more scholarships to worthy recipients who are studying fine arts, including both visual and performing arts. These scholarships are awarded in memory of John and Avis Cobb, long time members and patrons of the St. Clair Theatre Guild.
The criteria to be considered for one of these scholarship awards is as follows:
- Applicants must be either: a) residents of the East China School District in Michigan (public, private or homeschooled K-12 students are eligible, as well as adults living in the district); b) active members of the St. Clair Theatre Guild (defined as having participated in a Guild production within that past three years) living outside of the East China School District; or c) a high school student attending Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School in Marine City, Michigan.
- Attending or planning to attend a college or university, trade school, arts academy or other educational institution to study fine arts (including visual or performing arts), or attending or planning to attend a continuing education conference, seminar or other continuing education opportunity. Proof of admission to the educational institution or continuing education opportunity may be required.
- Timely and complete submission of the John & Avis Cobb Fine Arts Scholarship application, available below. NOTE: Beginning with the 2020 application period, only online applications will be accepted.
All applications must be submitted online using the form on this page on or before April 15th of each year. The Scholarship Committee will consider all applications received by that date, and will determine the number and amount of scholarship awards given each calendar year, subject to approval by the Guild’s Board of Directors. The decision of the Board of Directors is final.
Decisions are made by May 30th.
