Winter Play Reads announced

In preparation for our re-launch of a full theatrical season in 2019-20, the Guild will be hosting a series of play reads this winter. These reads are of plays that we may (or may not) consider for production. All interested actors, technical crew, and supporters are welcome to attend and participate as readers or as audience members.

The Winter Play Reads will be every other Wednesday evening starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Guild Building on Goffe Street in St. Clair.

Our friends at the Borderline Theatre Group will be hosting a parallel series of play readings on the alternate Wednesdays at the Brass Rail in downtown Port Huron. Their selections will contain more adult situations and language, so be aware of that should you choose to participate with their play reads. More details on the plays they’ll be reading are on their website.

The Guild will be paying for one night of performance rights for each of the plays. Admission to the Winter Play Reads is free; a donation jar will be at the door for those who enjoyed the reading.

The first four plays to be read will be:

  • Wednesday, January 16 – Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? by Edward Albee
  • Wednesday, January 30 – Five Women Wearing the Same Dress by Alan Ball
  • Wednesday, February 13 – Picasso At The Lapin Agile by Steve Martin
  • Thursday, February 28 – Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller (Note change of day!)

The Winter Play Reads will continue through early May.
