Each year, the Guild awards one or more scholarships to worthy recipients who are studying fine arts, including both visual and performing arts. These scholarships are awarded in memory of John and Avis Cobb, long time members and patrons of the St. Clair Theatre Guild.
The criteria to be considered for one of these scholarship awards is as follows:
- Applicants must be either: a) residents of the East China School District (public, private or homeschooled K-12 students are eligible, as well as adults living in the district); or b) active members of the St. Clair Theatre Guild living outside of the East China School District.
- Attending or planning to attend a college or university, trade school, arts academy or other educational institution to study fine arts (including visual or performing arts), or attending or planning to attend a continuing education conference, seminar or other continuing education opportunity. Proof of admission to the educational institution or continuing education opportunity will be required.
- Timely and complete submission of the John & Avis Cobb Fine Arts Scholarship application (cover page) (2018 application form), along with three letters of recommendation as detailed on the application form.
All applications must be received at the Guild’s post office box on or before April 15th of each year. The Scholarship Committee will consider all applications received by that date, and will determine the number and amount of scholarship awards given each calendar year, subject to approval by the Guild’s Board of Directors. The decision of the Board of Directors is final.
